Lauren deFreitas
I was ten years old when my parents told me we were moving to Texas. I said "No Deal". How could I leave beautiful upstate New York, the flock of ducks I hand raised, or the cat that slept in my bed every night? My parents coyly offered horse-back riding lessons if I came with them. Upon hearing this, I quickly packed my bags and my cat for Texas.
Inspired by my new hobby, I eargerly signed up for canine, equine, and aquatic science classes at Jasper Junior High in Plano. During my two years at Plano Senior High, I also pursued Tae-Kwan-Do, in which I now hold a brown belt.
At the University of North Texas, I followed my dream of becoming a documentary filmmaker, and earned a BA in Radio, Television, and Film Studies. While in Denton I produced a local news show every Wednesday evening with great success, and thought that I had found my calling. After graduating magna cum laude in only three years, however, I discovered the film business just wasn't for me. So, I took some science courses at a community college and dedicated my life to animals once again.
My extended family has included ducks, cats, bunnies, horses, frogs, and fish. I now live with my boyfriend of four years, Jason, and my Heeler mix, Lola. I enjoy gardening, reading, and of course, walking or running after my dog.
Frances Vaughan
Upon moving to McKinney from Sugar Land, Texas in June 2003, Frances began to pursue a career as a Veterinary Technician after raising three children, Justin, Jason and Jordan. She started out as a receptionist and has been attending classes to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. With a life long love for animals and always having pets as part of her family, the choice to become an RVT was inevitable.
Frances joined the Custer McDermott staff in April 2006 as a Veterinary Technician. Helping clients take care of their pets, which in many cases are like family members, is one of the aspects of her work she really enjoys.
Frances shares her home with 2 cats, Romeo, a domestic shorthair tabby, Simon, a flame point siamese , and 3 labrador retrievers, Hercules, Leila, and Polo. Outdoor activities are a big part of Frances’s life. She enjoys hiking with her dogs, swimming, fishing, and riding her Morgan horse, Skeeter.
